HOW TO WRITE A BIOGRAPHICAL STORY ABOUT YOUR ANCESTOR
GUIDELINES FOR THE FELLOWSHIP OF FIRST FLEETERS' WEBSITE
1. Stories need to be identified with the name of the author and Fellowship membership number and contact details - to enable web readers to share notes and submit corrections.
2. Only one story per FF. A new story could replace that existing, with previous author so informed.
3. The Fellowship reserves the right to edit. Submitted profiles are proofread before posting to the FFF website. Occasionally matters are referred to the research officer for clarification and the writer then informed.
4. Biographies must contain facts, but incorporated into an interesting story line, creatively written.
5. Include references; any unproved material should be indicated as such, with its source if possible.
6. Profiles should be no longer than the longest one already posted on the Fellowship website. On average, length is about 1500 words.
7. It is suggested that would-be biographers read several of the existing postings to get ideas for preparing for their own.
8. To find existing postings:
- Go to main menu of FFF website: www.fellowshipfirstfleeters.org.au
- Click on Ships; select a specific ship, click on the picture and the list of First Fleeters will come up.
- Profiles already on the site will be printed in blue.
9. Type in Calibri, font in size 10.
10. Only press Enter once to start a new paragraph.
11. Address submissions and/or contact the FFF editorial team: [email protected]
